Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) 2022-23

Through the seasons, these youth leaders shared their creativity and unique perspectives, collaborated and cultivated new learnings on climate/environmental action to raise awareness and take action with their community. We are grateful for all the caring ideas, insights and mindfulness the YAC 2022-23 brought to the EcoSchools Program and to the community, inspiring us to collectively act, connect and build resilience to climate changes.

Abdullah

HDSB, grade 11

Hey, I’m Abdullah, and I am a grade 11 IB student. I joined YAC because I wanted to make a larger impact on the climate effort in Canada. I’m passionate about intersectionality in environmental activism, and the role of the global north vs the global south in the climate crisis.

Cara

SCDSB, grade 12

Hey! I’m Cara, a grade 12 student from Barrie who loves all things nature. When in season, my favourite pastimes include skiing, snowboarding, canoeing, and hiking. Being a member of the YAC has been an incredible experience, full of networking and leadership opportunities. This is now my third term with the YAC, and I’m so excited to see what this year’s group can accomplish!

Erica

Independent/Private, grade 12

Hi, I’m Erica! I have a passion for environmental sustainability and community involvement, which motivated me to join the YAC. Being a part of this committee provides me with an amazing opportunity to shape the future of schools, make a positive impact, and hear from other inspiring youth members. Besides working with the YAC, I enjoy reading, writing, and spending time outdoors with my family.

Beyond EcoSchools, she’s currently a member of Student Council and a volunteer for Brampton Library. In her spare time, you can catch her reading a murder mystery, painting watercolours, or at the theatre (either in a show or watching one).
