WattNext:
The Future of Energy in Ontario
Did you know that Ontario’s demand for electricity is expected to increase by 65% by 2050 ? That’s like adding four and a half cities the size of Toronto to the electricity grid. As Ontario’s population and economy grows, the need for energy will be a province wide priority.
Explore Ontario’s energy landscape and help design a vision for a sustainable, reliable, and resilient clean energy future.

How to participate:

Investigate Ontario’s Energy System
- Research how electricity is generated, stored, transmitted, distributed, and used in your school community and across the province through OPG’s WattNext platform. Learn about Ontario’s different energy sources, their benefits and challenges, and explore the environmental, social, and economic factors that influence energy planning.
- Learn why different factors such as flexibility, reliability and environmental impact matter when planning our clean energy future and discuss with your classroom, EcoTeam and/or your community to explore what matters most when planning for Ontario’s energy needs. OPTIONAL: Use this survey to gather opinions and ideas from your community.

Share your vision
Create and share your vision for Ontario’s future energy system based on what you learned in Step 1. Your project may take many forms including an energy grid design, poster, presentation, model, video, podcast or another creative communication piece to showcase your ideas with your school community.
