Parents / Guardians
EcoSchools isn’t just for teachers and students – it’s for parents and guardians too!
Parents and guardians are an important part of a strong and resilient EcoTeam (environmental club). There are many ways parents’ and guardians’ diverse skill sets and expertise can benefit their child’s EcoSchools program!
1. Register your school as an EcoSchool
To register, you will need to speak to a staff member at your school who can create a free account. Send along a link to this webpage or contact us at info@ecoschools.ca for additional support.
2. Become a member of the EcoTeam
Once your school is registered, ask a staff member to add you to the EcoTeam so you can access our online platform. Parents and guardians can collaborate with teachers and students to create and implement an environmental action plan for their child’s school.
3. Take action
Parents can play a leading or supporting role on the EcoTeam but it is essential to take action! Actions can take the form of:
-
- Supporting students as they launch waste-free lunch campaigns, gardening projects, track energy and water usage and run advocacy campaigns.
- Boosting school-based actions with at-home support.
- Spreading the word about your school’s accomplishments, events and other news through social media, community newsletters and local media outlets.
4. Celebrate!
Making change isn’t always easy, but should always be celebrated. Boost morale on your EcoTeam by throwing a waste-free garden party, screening an environmental film or hosting a guest speaker. At the end of the school year, be sure to celebrate your certification results!
