Since opening the new online EcoSchools Certification Application (ECA) on September 28, more than 800 schools in seven provinces and territories have registered to participate in the EcoSchools program this year, with more continuing to sign up every day.
Why is registration so important?
Followers of our Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram channels will know we recently counted down the top five reasons for schools to register for the EcoSchools program. To recap, they are:
- Registration provides access to everything that your school community needs to take action for the environment , including campaign tips, teaching strategies, and educator-tested green ideas.
- Registration is NOT an obligation to certify! Instead, it’s the first step in exploring how schools can build new sustainability practices and be recognized for the ones they’re already doing.
- Signing up is absolutely FREE for all publicly-funded schools in Canada, and independent and private schools are welcome to participate for a small annual fee.
- Registration unlocks access to a suite of 40+ sustainability actions, tools, and resources to support schools’ annual environmental action plans.
- By registering, schools are joining a community of hundreds of thousands of environmental leaders across Canada and around the world who are creating epic positive change for the future of our shared home.

All schools who have registered AND created a plan in the ECA by the last Friday in January (January 29, 2021) will be eligible to win a $100 EcoSchools microgrant towards environmental initiatives at their school!
