It’s been an amazing year for schools in the EcoSchools program! We’re thrilled to announce 1,900 schools from 58 school boards across Ontario have successfully certified in the 2018-19 school year. These numbers represent the amazing efforts of students, teachers, administrators, custodians, board representatives, and countless others, province-wide, who have made the commitment to greening their school.
In addition to these terrific achievements, there are a number of notable program-wide accomplishments:
- New heights: An amazing 34% of schools increased their level of certification this year.*
- Platinum fever: This year saw 224 Platinum schools certify, the most ever in the history of the EcoSchools program.*
- New record: Ontario can now count six school boards as 100% certified, also a record in the program’s history.
- A new face: We’d like to welcome Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario as the newest school board to join the EcoSchools community.
- Amazing community: There are now over 50,000 EcoTeam members across the province.
- Green thumbs: A whopping 12,000 trees were planted by EcoSchools this year.*
- Trash-tastic: 523 certified schools report waste diversion rates of 30% or more!*
