October is International Walk to School Month

Whether you roll, bike, skate, or walk to school, October is a great time to get outside, get active, and have fun for the planet.

  • Check out our Active Transportation Campaign Kit that includes ideas for all grade levels.
  • Ontario Active School Travel has activity suggestions linked to the Ontario curriculum.
  • Here’s how one school walked and became media celebrities! Read the Toronto Star article.
  • Walk/roll/ride to school campaigns that engage the whole school in environmental learning and action can be claimed in Environmental Stewardship. Please review the EcoSchools Certification Guide to see where these can be claimed. 2018-19 Certification Guides will be available when registration opens on September 28, 2018.

Waste Reduction Week: October 15-21, 2018

  • Our targeted Waste Minimization resources can go a long way to helping you plan and prepare.
  • Take action across the nation: Waste Reduction Week Canada has lots of resources that can guide your campaigns.
  • A wide variety of waste-focused learning and action can be claimed as part of your Ontario EcoSchools application. Please review the EcoSchools Certification Guide to see where these can be claimed. 2018-19 Certification Guides will be available when registration opens on September 28, 2018.

World Food Day: October 16

  • Our Local Food kit is full of activities and campaigns for the classroom and beyond.
  • The UN Food and Agriculture Organization has a poster contest for children and youth to bring awareness to World Food Day.
