Are you feeling ready to share all your hard work from this year? Early-birds, you have until Friday, April 13 to submit and be entered into the draw to win one of four Ontario EcoSchools prize packs!

We’ve already been seeing excellent progress with online applications and are looking forward to school visits this spring. This year’s final submission deadline is the last Friday of April – here are some essential elements to think about as you fill out the rest of your application.

  • Teamwork and Leadership (1.1): Show us what your EcoTeam has been up to throughout the year by including a photo or Word document of your meeting minutes OR a completed Yearly Planner.

Need further ideas? Check out our Teamwork and Leadership resource package  for suggestions on learning and action.

  • Energy Conservation (2.10): It’s all about communication! Demonstrate that students are sharing goals, successes, and areas of improvement by describing displays, signage, awards, social media accounts and other communication strategies.

Need further ideas? Check out our Energy Conservation resource package  for suggestions on learning and action.

  • Waste Minimization (3.3): For this question, we’d like to hear about measures in place to reduce food-related waste during lunchtime; this can include compost bins in the lunchroom/cafeteria, regular waste-free/Boomerang lunch programs, and clear communications with parents and students.

Need further ideas? Check out our Waste Minimization resource package  for suggestions on learning and action.

  • School Ground Greening (4.1b): For a greening project that reflects whole school participation, we’d like to know how students have participated in all aspects of planning, planting, and regular care. You can upload a student-drawn plan, photos of planting/mulching/watering, or evidence of student-led presentations or fundraising.

Need further ideas? Check out our School Ground Greening resource package  for suggestions on learning and action.

  • Curriculum: For this section, simply take one or more photos of student work; if your submission was a field trip, fill out the template explaining how students learned In, About, and For the environment.

Need further ideas? Check out our Curriculum resource package for suggestions on learning and action.

  • Environmental Stewardship: Connect your campaign to a specific environmental concern (e.g. local species or habitat protection, stewardship of a ravine or waterway) to demonstrate whole-school learning and action.

Need further ideas? Check out our Environmental Stewardship resource package for suggestions on learning and action.
