This fall we were thrilled to launch a full year of climate leadership opportunities. It was an excellent opportunity to surface and share inspiring stories from EcoSchools across the province.

Here are a few highlights

  • At the beginning of the school year we released a brand new Toolkit to help schools plan impactful climate action campaigns across three main areas: transportation, food, and consumerism.
  • In October, we launched a three-part Climate Leadership blog series (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) to encourage schools to connect their local initiatives to global climate action.
  • In November, we ran a Climate Leadership Contest to encourage schools to share their climate actions for the chance to win $500 from our generous sponsor, Cascades. (See stories on the winning schools below.)
  • During certification we saw firsthand how schools embedded learning and action into their EcoSchools program. Overall, certified schools delivered 333 climate change lessons and 451 climate change-related campaigns.
  • This year we also received 10 Kindergarten curriculum submissions referencing climate change! It’s never too early to start learning about what role we play in climate change!

Once again we’d like to congratulate all participating EcoTeams for being climate leaders who effect change in their communities…and beyond!
