Get outside with Ontario EcoSchools’ new Full-Day Early Learning Kindergarten (FD ELK) lessons! These three lessons feature different ways to bring critical thinking and inquiry outdoors.

In the first lesson students will create Environmental Art. Using Andy Goldsworthy, a renowned nature-based artist, as an inspiration, students will use found outdoor materials to create their own works of art. They will explore outdoor spaces and think critically about what materials to use and what message their art communicates.

In the second lesson students will go on a Nature Walk where they will familiarize themselves with the living and non-living things in nature. After reading a seasonal story, students will have the opportunity to explore outdoor spaces around their school. Back inside, students will create their own nature inspired story together.

In the third lesson students engage in a Nature Scavenger Hunt where they will use their senses to find outdoor nature-based objects. They will explore their outdoor space searching for specific items and then communicate how they made their choices. Inside, they will think critically about their objects and how to sort them into different categories.

The new FD ELK resources connect the EcoSchools program to Ontario curriculum expectations, and can be claimed in your Ontario EcoSchools’ certification.
