January is the month where schools that have yet to complete their Initial EcoReviews get busy. The Initial EcoReviews consists of 18 questions in Energy Conservation and Waste Minimization that detail the eco practices currently happening at the school. From this Initial review, schools set targets, make action plans, and identify areas for improvement.

In order to be eligible for certification, schools must input the results of their Initial EcoReviews by January 31 2015. After they have submitted results, schools will have until April 30, 2015 to complete their applications for assessment.

How do I meet the requirements for the January 31st deadline?

  1. Register your school’s application at certapp.ontarioecoschools.org (new and returning schools need to register each school year).
  2. Conduct an Initial EcoReview with your EcoTeam.
  3. Input the results from your Initial EcoReview into your certification application (should only take 10 minutes):
  • Sign in to your application with your email and password. Trouble signing in? Contact us.
  • Click on ‘Energy Conservation’ and input levels for questions 2.1-2.9. Click ‘Save’.
  • Click on ‘Waste Minimization’ and input levels for questions 3.1 to 3.9. Click ‘Save’. Click level “0” for any questions that are not occurring or do not have information at this time.
  • Please note: schools only need to input levels and click ‘Save’ to meet the Jan 31st deadline. No portfolio uploads are required. Your school will have until April 30th to complete the rest of your application.
  • Please note: points for these questions are calculated when you input your Follow-Up EcoReview closer to the April 30th deadline.

TIP! Use the Initial EcoReview tracker (found in the top left corner of your online application) to track your progress. When you see a check mark, you have answered all 18/18 questions for your Initial EcoReview.
