Safely explore the outdoors this summer and find ways to connect with your environment by looking for these nature clues. Share your highlights from the hunt on social media and tag @EcoSchoolsCAN.
Scavenger Hunt 1
In a nearby outdoor space, find…
- A terrestrial habitat
- An aquatic habitat
- Something that is more than 100 years old
- Something that looks different depending on the season
- Something that looks more interesting when you see it up close
- Something an animal has interacted with
- Something that looked different before human interaction
- An invasive species
- Something you didn’t notice until this visit
- The best spot to have a picnic
Scavenger Hunt 2
If you can, try to visit a different spot than last time. This one is going to help you connect with your space a bit differently, getting you to engage four of your five senses: sight, sound, feel, and smell.
In a nearby outdoor space (different from last time, if possible)…
- See:
- Where birds like to land
- Animal footprints
- An insect habitat
- Something you’ll show a friend the next time you visit
- Listen to:
- Whatever can be heard from the highest point in the space
- Whatever can be heard from the lowest point in the space
- Feel:
- The bark on the oldest tree
- Three different textures: soil, leaves, and grass
- Smell:
- What you think is the best smelling thing in the space
- The space, and try to identify the scent that is strongest
